finalizzato "Oncologia", Specializzata in "Medicina Sperimentale", ricercatrice presso il
Dipartimento di Biologia e Scienze della Salute, Facoltà di Scienze, Tecnologia e Disegno,
Università di Luton, (England), responsabile del laboratorio di Fisiologia cellulare del Dipartimento
di Scienze Fisiologiche dell'Università degli Studi di Catania, è ricercatrice confermata presso la
Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali per il settore disciplinare BIO/09-Fisiologia
dell'Università degli Studi di Catania.
Nell’a.a. 2006/2007 è stata nominata dal Corso di Laurea in Scienze ecologiche ed educazione
ambientale Professore Aggregato.
Dall’a.a. 2007/2008 a tutt’oggi il Preside della Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali
Le ha conferito l’incarico di Responsabile di quanto connesso con le “Attività di Orientamento”
della Facoltà.
Svolge la sua attività didattica per i corsi di laurea in Scienze ecologiche ed educazione ambientale
e Scienze ambientali. Nell’Anno Accademico 2008/2009 ha tenuto i seguenti corsi:
-Fisiologia ambientale per il corso di laurea in Scienze ecologiche ed educazione ambientale, I
livello;
- Fisiologia ambientale per il corso di laurea in Scienze ambientali, I livello;
- Laboratorio di Fisiologia ambientale per il corso di laurea in Scienze ambientali, II livello.
E' membro del Collegio dei Docenti del Dottorato di Ricerca in "Ipovisione e riabilitazione visiva"
ed è tutor di dottorandi.
Fa parte dell'Elenco Speciale dell'Ordine Nazionale dei Biologi ed è membro della Società Italiana
di Fisiologia e dell’Associazione Italiana Colture Cellulari.
Ha collaborato e collabora a ricerche interdisciplinari, mantenendo contatti con laboratori italiani ed
esteri. La sua ricerca si svolge nell'ambito della fisiologia cellulare, della neurobiologia,
dell'immunologia e dell'oncologia. Attualmente si occupa di ricerche riguardanti: 1) meccanismi di
risposta cellulare indotti dalle fibre amianto-simili presenti nella zona Etnea di Biancavilla (CT) e
nella zona delle Alpi Occidentali del Piemonte; 2) effetti "in vitro" dello stress da farmaci, da
sostanze naturali e da agenti fisici e chimici sulla attivazione di pathways dell’apoptosi e/o della
necrosi; 3) nuovi approcci farmacologici nella terapia delle patologie infiammatorie croniche; 4)
effetti biologici dei nuovi farmaci antiepilettici sulla funzionalità delle cellule astrogliali e neuronali
"in vitro" 5) attività antitumorale di sostanze naturali; 6) veicolazione di farmaci attivi mediante
carriers particellari.
E' responsabile di Progetti di Ricerca di Ateneo del'Università di Catania ed è stata coordinatore
locale di un progetto PRIN COFIN2004.
E' titolare di un brevetto n.03025195.3, Università di Catania.
E' referee per riviste internazionali ed ha fatto parte di comitati organizzatori di congressi nazionali
ed internazionali. Ha partecipato in qualità di relatore a numerosi convegni nazionali ed
internazionali.
La sua attività scientifica comprende oltre 180 tra comunicazioni, presentazioni a congressi
nazionali ed internazionali e pubblicazioni di abstracts e lavori per esteso su riviste nazionali ed
