Smoking and tobacco-use cessation counseling visits for a diagnosis of Tobacco-Use Disorder are covered under NJ DIRECT when rendered by an eligible health care professional in an eligible place of service. Smoking cessation classes conducted by a non-physician provider in an individual or group setting are not covered under NJ DIRECT. The interactive, personalized program guides the member through specific, practical tasks on a self-paced schedule. Online message board exchanges and a personalized goal planner support the member’s progress toward quitting. TheLifestyle Improvement Program also includes:

• NJ Quitline 1-866-NJSTOPS (1-866-657-8677): A free, 24/7 telephone-based service that helps people ages 18 years and
older who want to stop smoking. Trained counselors give callers information, advice, encouragement and one-on-one counseling. Counselors design an individualized program to support each smoker’s effort to quit. Participants receive four counseling sessions, with the option of adding sessions as needed. • NJ Quitnet: A free, online service that offers smokers an individualized quitting plan. Quitnet is anonymous, available
24 hours a day and may be accessed from any computer. Smokers can contact trained counselors and choose from a variety of quitting tools on the site, such as a quitting calendar. There are also chat rooms where participants get support from others trying to quit. The free service is provided in English, though portions of the website, www.njquitnet.com, are in Spanish.
• Mom’s Quit Connection: This program offers free support services for pregnant women and new mothers to help moms
quit smoking and stay smoke-free. Smoking during pregnancy is a significant risk for both the mother and her unborn baby. Prenatal smoking cessation can help both mom and baby stay safe and healthy. This program also offers support services for new mothers to reduce dangerous secondhand smoke exposure around young children. There is no fee for qualified individuals. Telephone counseling offered state-wide; face-to-face counseling offered in Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem Counties. Languages: English and Spanish.
