Standardized Format for Drug References


Following is a list of drugs (generic and trade name) that you may be using in your test items. The AAP test
construction committee has reviewed each of the following and developed a standardized format so that all
items on the exam refer to each drug in the same fashion. Please use the format listed below if you refer to any
of these drugs.

You may use the acronym rather than spelling out the words for any of the following:

Formats for Commonly Appearing Terms


When referring to the items below, please utilize the standardized format provided below (including capitalization
and hyphenation).
 “bone-marrow” when being used as an adjective  “bone marrow” (no hyphen) when being used as a noun  Necrotizing Ulcerative Periodontitis All periodontal pathogenic bacteria should be italicized, the genus abbreviated, and the species written out (e.g., P.gingivalis, B. forsythus). Again, in the question stem, spell out the genus.
