Two-year study. Purpose is both retrospective and prospective in identification of HIV patients with total suppression of viral loads who still have low CD4 cell counts as to what antiretroviral agents they are on. The theory is that protease inhibitors may be anti-apoptotic versus nonnucleosides which may allow apoptosis of CD4 cells. The second part of the study is to observe patients that are on one class (either protease inhibitors or nonnucleosides) and switched to the other class to see results of CD4 cell count during complete viral suppression. Owl Study, sponsored by BTG Pharmaceuticals. Purpose of the study is to evaluate the incidence of wasting in HIV patients both on and off antiretroviral agents with various levels of CD4 cell counts.
